Sneak Peak.....Row By Row.....
I have had to fight the need to find a paper bag to breathe into this week....waaay too many DEADLINES! But you don't need to hear my woes. Tonight I have a *sneak peak* of our row for the upcoming Row By Row Experience . I shamelessly begged Tracey to work her quilting magic after her retreat next week. And....I thought I could live without baiting my hook, but alas, I think I must succumb to a worm! The event begins June 21st (actually June 22nd at Fab-Etc since the 21st is a Sunday.) The next Row X Row deadline is having the pattern ready to handout. We will also have some kits available for our row, as well as Fab-Etc *license plates* for sale. Our plate says *HKD ON QLTS* Get it...hooked.....hook in row.....okay, you got it, didn't you?!? I'll be sure to show you the row after Miss Tracey spiffs it up and I bait my hook, plus a picture of our fabric license plates after we get them. I'm thinking this is going to be a lot of fun this summer, don't you?
What else is happening? Well, I'm gonna have quite a few *reveals* in the next few weeks for you! Diane is working on the doggone cutest *Campers* pattern from Amy Bradley...you are gonna LOVE it! And Jan and I are still working like crazy on our new Block of the Month *Garden Tea Party* that we are hoping to finish next week and hand off to Sharon @ Grass Roots Quilt Studio. Hoping to have it ready for sign-ups in time for Shop Hop in a few weeks. It is turning out really great! There a few other things we have planned in the next few weeks, so you'll have to stay tuned to the blog and Facebook.
Okay...need to finish cleaning up around here and write some payroll checks....staff will appreciate that =) Tomorrow will be a fun day as we are planning on getting together with most of the fam to celebrate Benson's 12th birthday and a belated 4th birthday for our Miss Ellie! Gonna be a fun day...hope yours is too!
Memorial Day 2015.......
Just a *heads up* for you......
We'll be back open our regular hours on Tuesday, but taking the next two whole days off! I hope you get to enjoy some time spent with family, friends and loved ones. And a special thank you to all who have served and to those who have supported them. Thank you as well to my *retired guy* former Marine too. More *fabric stuff* to come in a day or sew.
*I found my thrill........*
Are you old enough to remember hearing Fats Domino sing *Blueberry Hill* on a little transistor radio? I saved my $$$$ for months to buy my first little radio that I could take anywhere with me.....oh my, I really AM old! But I digress greatly. Blueberry Hill is the name if the pattern Diane used to make this fun quilt using 2 1/2" strips. As many of you know, we like to call Diane our *batik queen* cuz she loves to work with batik fabrics. We save all of the
end of bolt pieces and keep them in drawers in the back room that she's arranged by color. She likes to use them on all of the Garden Patch Cats we have hanging in the class area. Well, she's been telling me for months that the drawers are super overflowing. Jan and I used some of them to make the Mondo Bag, but that didn't make much of a dent. Sew....when I got this pattern, Diane chose some batiks and went to work on it and then Nikki (Country Quilter) did a fabulous job of quilting it for us. I forgot to get a picture before I hung it up yesterday....there's actually one more row you cannot see. And the pattern called for a border, but we kind of liked the way it looked without, so we left it off. Subsequently, she and I went through all of the drawers, got our trusty Studio die cut machine, ironed and chopped anything that was width of fabric into 2 1/2" strips. Then I greeted Jan last week with strips of fabric everywhere! She and I went to work and made up twenty-four *mini* jelly rolls that have twenty 2 1/2" strips in them. We still have leftovers, but the drawers are now manageable again!
I apologize for not blogging lately.....kind of felt I didn't have much to tell you about. We're working on *stuff* but some of it's just not ready to be revealed yet. And we're facing deadlines for Shop Hop and Row By Row Experience, so we've kind of been preoccupied with all of that. We're making progress, so I should have lots to tell you about soon! Hope your Sunday is wonderful....I'm going to do a little tidying around here, laundry, sewing and maybe break the bikes out for a ride later this afternoon!
Hooray for the Red, White and Blue.....
I'm back.....been a busy few weeks around home and the shop, but here I am again! One of the things I've been working on was this great red, white and blue runner from the book *Quilted Living*. I always seem to look at this type of a project and think, oh, that will be quick and easy to whip up for a sample. Well, it probably would be if it weren't for the first quarter taxes, payroll, newsletter, calendar, work schedule, May bills and moving a daughter and two grandsons! But here it is....Tracey did an absolutely fabulous job quilting it and I got the binding sewn on this weekend. It's on the design wall right now while I try and decide on a good home for it! It really was fun to make and we even still have the fabrics in stock, as well as the book!
Today was just a crazy, busy day at the shop. It started out quiet for about 1/2 hour and then ~ bam ~ busy all day long! Linda and I barely had time to catch our breath! But we did get the Tea Party set up for tomorrow and managed to open the freight and put it away too! There were some great new batiks from Hoffman that arrived today. Last week, the new Jen Kingwell fabrics arrived, as well as the charm packs from her line *Gardenvale*. (I confess I have been feverishly working on a project using a couple of prints....the reveal will be soon.) And Jan and I have been working hard on getting a BOM ready to unveil in the next few weeks....unfortunately, two of the bolts of fabric have gotten delayed during the port slowdown, so we cannot complete the whole thing yet. BUT....we have a plan so you can see it pretty soon! Stay tuned.
Okay...it's been a very long day, so I am going to call it a night. Watch your inboxes for an email update I am in the process of sending ~ okay? You should see it sometime this week (can only send 1,000/day).
