Here a chick, there a chick.........

Okay...sorry...I said there would be more this week, but I didn't quite get to it until late tonight  =(

These are pictures of a quilt Diane made that caused quite a few chuckles during Shop Hop and beyond.  It's from a book called *Chicken Buffet*.  She made it along with some of her sewing buddies.  I love the Chicken Cacciatore....don't you?  It's hanging in the back classroom area, sew you'll have to take a look at it when you come in.  She's planning to offer a class this Fall if anyone is interested.

Well.....it's taken me longer than usual, but I've begun to recover from those 12 hour days of Shop Hop.  The retired guy and I took a couple of days off in the middle of the week and pulled the little trailer up to Birch Bay State Park and *relaxed* a bit.  We missed the nice sunny weather by a day or two, but it was still a nice get-away.  Speaking of the nice sunny weather ~ a.k.a. HOT ~ remember that if you need a spot to cool down this week, the back class area is always open to you.  You can bring a project, a machine or just come and sit for a spell if you need a break from the heat!  We're always happy to have the company.
Of course, you know me well enough to realize that I am in the thick of the *end of/beginning of the month* stuff around here.  Just about got everything done (payroll, newsletter, bills, flash drives, Nifty Notion, etc).  Hoping to play around a bit with a sample tomorrow ~ my sewing area is in the nice, cool basement!  Hoping your Sunday is enjoyable.

Feet up....

Okay.....Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop 2013 is in the rear view mirror!  It was a lot of fun, but I have to admit that I am tired.  Might be getting too old for all of those 12 hour days in a row?!?  But, we got to see lots and lots of Hoppers and had lots and lots of laughs too.  Everyone was having a good time visiting the shops and getting inspired with all of the great projects and ideas out there.  Sew....I am going to go put my feet up 'cuz tomorrow, Diane and I have to start putting things *back to normal*....well as *normal* as anything gets around Fab-Etc  =)

Have a lovely Monday.....more fun things to show you later this week ~ okay?

Shop Hop 2013 Day One report......

Okay....Shop Hop 2013 Day One is in the books.  This is what things looked like right before I opened the doors this morning at 9:00.  I didn't manage to get everything together before I went home Tuesday night, so I was up at the crack of dawn this morning...in fact, in time to watch the news reports showing the first few cars roll across the Skagit River temporary bridge a little after 5:00 a.m.  Hooray!!  Then, over to the shop at 7:00 a.m. and *mostly* ready for Hoppers at 9:00 a.m.  We had over 400 folks picking up block kits and a busload of 36 happy Hoppers this afternoon.  Needless to say, by the time the retired guy and I got home tonight, I was pooped!  (He is the *graveyard shift* helping me close things up this year.  He caught on pretty quickly to the whole "This is our block ~  everything is included ~ are you doing the Treasure Hunt ~ here's our clue" thing!!)  It's always a lot of fun to see all of you having a good time visiting the shops.  Some of you, we only see during Shop Hop and maybe the Tri-County events.  Okay....I think I need to have some *bonding time* with my pillow.....another fun day in store for tomorrow!

Treasure.......

Do you like treasure?  Do you like finding something from clues you're given?  Are you going to participate in the Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop that starts tomorrow?  Will you be visiting the 9 shops in the Tri-County Quilt Merchants Association that are participating?  Yes?  Then you HAVE to grab a Treasure Map at the first Tri-County shop and join our Treasure Hunt.  We did this last year and everybody had just a super time playing along.  I got to see one of the three treasure chests first hand....OMG it was stuffed with goodies!  We are all ready for you.  We have our clue ready and the maps printed for you.  The shop still needs a bit of tweaking in the morning, but we will be happy to stamp your passport and hand out our block kits starting at 9 am tomorrow.  And did you hear?  They are opening the replacement bridge over the Skagit tomorrow too!  Maybe some of the workers have Shop Hopping, quilting family who said, "Get that thing open sew we can easily go north to those 5 great shops in Whatcom County"  =)

Okay....have some *stuff* to do to be ready for the morning, so I am signing off.  Hope to see lots of you in the next 5 days!  Let the fun begin!!

Shop Hop 2013......

Okay, just two days from now, we'll be throwing the doors open at 9:00 to kick off Shop Hop 2013!  The last few years we've had close to 2,000 folks through the shop in the five day event.  WOW....that's a lot of people!  Everyone is having a good time visiting the shops; picking up their block kits and getting their passports stamped; seeing what fun ideas each shop has for them.  Sew....I guess you know what we will be doing the next two days.  Yes, we will be sprucing the place up for our visitors, moving some samples around, setting up our *stamp station*, and clearing the decks to cut fabric.  I'm putting up a picture of our block for you to see.  And these are just a couple of the ideas we have to use our block.  The topper is made using Moda's "Comma" fabric line by the designer Zen Chic.  Isn't it fun?  And the mug rug, we made using our block and of course, who wouldn't want a cupcake with their coffee?  We will have patterns available Wednesday for both of these ideas.

Okay, I need to finish my morning chores and head over to the shop.  We had a great time at Tonya's reception on Saturday.  It made for a busy day, so there's a bit of a mess left to clean up, plus there are some notions that came in on Friday that we need to get priced and put away.  Diane and I will be having a fun day!  Hope your Monday is good as well!

Sew proud....

This Saturday, June 15th, we are hosting a reception/magazine signing for our friend/customer/designer Tonya Alexander.  That's her cute smiley face you see in the picture.  We are *sew proud* of her....she has three quilts right now in current magazines, with even more coming!  Those are the magazines in the next picture ~ Scrap Quilts and McCalls Quilting.  The last picture is of the quilt that is in the McCalls magazine.  She's letting us hang that Saturday for the reception.  It's called Tickled Pink.  Plus....she's releasing a brand new pattern Saturday called *All I Want For Christmas*.  It is one darling tree skirt pattern.  And, it's quilt as you go, so is super do-able for anyone!  We've got her original sample, plus our Tracey was the *official pattern tester* for this design and we'll have that sample too, along with the fabrics she used, in the shop next week for Shop Hop.  Sew, if you're in the neighborhood Saturday, pop in anytime between 1:30-3:30; have a cookie and coffee/tea/juice; give Tonya a high five; and take a look around at her wonderful work.

Okay....I am doing lots of deep breathing as we try and pull things together for Shop Hop.  I always think I can get waaaay more done than actually comes into fruition.  Have a few bindings to sew and a pattern to get ready and lots of models to move around and passports to print and kits we might get ready and a mug rug to quilt.......okay.....that's enough of that for now!  Today, we got some of the newest Kansas Troubles Christmas line *Icicle Kisses* in the shop.  Oh, and the posters for Shop Hop came yesterday, so today we also have the laminated 8 1/2" x 11" posters with the quilt directions for you.  Large posters are $7.50 + tax and the smaller laminated ones are $3.00 (includes tax).   All right....I am off to work on those bindings now!

Here Kitty, Kitty.....

Remember I told you I was working on the Kitty Coin Purse pattern?  Diane was kind enough to make me the *kitty face* that goes on here.  I got a chance to sit down for a minute yesterday and finish putting it together.  Pretty cute and really simple too!  I put an inside pocket for credit/debit cards or ID.  The pattern called for that on the outside, sew you could do it that way too.  Would be a fun way to carry just the essentials around with you this summer!

Okay....I am off in a few minutes to meet a sales rep at the shop.  Then, Jan and I will continue on our mission to be Shop Hop ready.  I'm putting the binding on a little topper made using our Shop Hop block pattern....pics soon.  Make it a wonderful Wednesday!

Break's over now.....

Sorry about not posting anything for almost a week  =(   Things have been pretty busy around Fab-Etc; and then the retired guy and I took the little trailer out Sunday for its maiden voyage of the year.  We went up to Birch Bay State Park and spent the night.  I think I've told you before that I am kind of a sunset girl.  The years we lived out in the county behind a large hill were difficult ones ~ gorgeous sunrises over the Twin Sisters, but alas, no sunsets.  (And our daughter, Lydia has a *thing* about sunsets too....sorry you weren't with us this time for the sunset you see pictured here.  It was a good one!)  The water was this beautiful blue/purple and the sky lit up in pink and yellow!  Plus, we rode our bikes, read books, had campfires and did some beachcombing.

But....break is over now....time to really kick it into high gear and out my nose to the grindstone!  Have all the campfire-smelling clothes in the washer and the *stuff* out of the trailer and the dishes in the dishwasher.  Now....Shop Hop starts one week from this Wednesday.  I'll pretty much be working the next two+ weeks straight.  Lots of things to get ready for all of those Hoppers.  Word is that *they* are working around the clock trying to get the temporary bridge up over the Skagit, just in time for the Hop.  Regardless, we will be ready!  Okay, break is over and we return you to our regularly scheduled quilting/sewing programs  =)

On the first day.......

Sorry.....but it's another Christmas 2013 project post.  Remember, I said I was on a mission to get as many samples done as quickly as possible from the fabrics that are arriving.  I promise the next one won't be Ho, Ho, Ho related  =)

Anyway.... the 12 Days of Christmas panel from Henry Glass is in the center of this wallhanging.  The project is free from their website and now all it needs is some quilting and binding!  Several folks have asked if we are kitting it.....we'll try and get that done before Shop Hop.

Haven't posted in a few days because we've been busy at Fab-Etc.  I am happy to report that the nearly 1800 Shop Hop Block kits are happily tucked in their bags and into numbered boxes awaiting the arrival of Hoppers.  Today, Jan and I sewed on a few other projects.  And tomorrow at the tea party she's going to work on the binding for our Hop block that we worked up to hang by the stamp station in just two weeks!  We're working on a couple of *ideas* using our block (did you see a light bulb go off over the Fabettes' heads?!?)  I'll show them to you as soon as we get a finished, workable sample.  No new fabric today.....just some basics and a few notions and re-order patterns.

Sew....are you loving the weather if you live in the Pacific Northwest?  It's been gloriously sunny, hasn't it?  Jan and I thought about sitting outside this afternoon when it quieted down, but then decided that the hexagon quilt I was binding would be too warm to be under!  Whatever your day holds tomorrow, I hope it'll be a good one!
