Peas and carrots......

Isn't there a line in the Forrest Gump movie about *Me and Jenny go together like peas and carrots*?  Well, there's both peas and carrots in this little project I brought back from Quilt Market with some tomatoes thrown in for good measure!  These are three little Veggie Mats from Farmhouse Threads that Tracey and I spotted in their booth.  I have some of the peas started and just finished the carrots last night.  It was a really fun project and super cute!   We have a few of the patterns and more on the way.

Well, tomorrow, Harriet and I will start putting all of the Shop Hop block kits in their bags.  I got the directions all written and printed.  We're hoping that the bridge disaster won't keep too many of you away ~ we are so thankful that no one was seriously injured in the collapse.  *They* say that the temporary bridge could be up in just a few weeks, so that would be great timing for all of you Shop Hoppers!  We've been working on some fun ideas using our block for this year.  Can't wait to show you!  It's getting late....I was at the shop at 7:30 this morning for an early meeting with a sales rep.  Wouldn't want to run out of fabric!!  But....I am pooped tonight, so I think it's time to hit the hay.  Have a wonderful Friday all.

Thank you.

It's beginning to look a lot like......

Well....you know it's May around Fabric-Etc because the Christmas fabric is starting to pile up at the back of the shop by the design wall  =)  We try to be sensitive and not put it *in your face* so that's where it's living for now.  As always, there are some great fabrics this year; and my goal is to get some samples done ASAP.  This picture is from a darling group of fabric.  The Advent calendar is an easy peasy panel....the pockets just fold up!  Jan made a 60 degree runner out of the stripe....I'm finishing the binding tonight!

Those of us in the U.S. have a long weekend ~ Monday is Memorial Day here.  It's a time we reflect on how the freedoms we enjoy come with a price; and how very thankful we are to those men and women who are willing to sacrifice so we may have that freedom in the United States.  I am grateful to all of you, including the retired guy, former Marine.  I hope you have a lovely weekend everyone.

Primitive Quilts magazine.....

This is something I did bring back with me from Quilt Market.  Plus....it's something that's going to keep on giving!  We will now be carrying the Primitive Quilts magazine.  This is the Spring issue that came out a little while ago.  Sew....I only brought a few back with me.  The next issue is the Summer issue that will be coming out in July.  I know *primitive* isn't everyone's cup of tea.  But there are some wonderful projects in here and the photography is wonderful as well.  You might take a peek at one next time you're in.

Well....it's starting to happen....Christmas fabric is descending upon us.  We got a darling group from Henry Glass that we'll be making a project from soon.  Then, today, the new Basic Grey Christmas group *Aspen Frost* came in.  There's a super pattern that goes with it....hoping to get that going soon as well.  Jan made a 60 degree runner from another cute group and I made up the Advent calendar.  Both of them just need binding now ~ I LOVE sitting in my chair in the late evening and sewing binding!  How about you?

Primarily Quilts.....

Look what arrived while I was gone at Quilt Market!  I didn't share the first few copies I got because they were gone before I got my camera out!  Sharon T. had inquired as to whether or not I could order this for her.  The book is from Quiltmania based in Europe and not readily available in the States.  It was an adventure, including dealing with a lovely gal in France named Sophie.  But....we persevered and got the books.  They were gone in a few days, so I ordered more for some folks that saw the first order.  What is this book?  Well, it's "Primarily Quilts" by Australian Di Ford.  Di, who previously owned 'Primarily Patchwork' in Melbourne, has an extraordinary talent for quilt making, and this 240 page book shares 16 of her gorgeous patterns.  The photography is true to Quiltmania standards and gorgeous, as are the projects.  One of my favorites was Road 66....yup, based on Route 66.  We have one of them out of the packaging, so flip through it if you're at the counter.

Well, the retired guy and I got home a little past dinner time yesterday.  That's a long drive from Portland!  Quilt Market was wonderful and inspiring.  Brought home a few things to *play* with; ordered a few more, plus some fabric.  More sales reps will be stopping by in the next few weeks to show me the rest of what's new and exciting.  Harriet and the gals kept things humming at the shop.  I tried to clean up the *stuff* I brought home and then Diane and I started fiddling with a few ideas!  I've got to finish the directions for our Shop Hop block this week and then next week we will *stuff* bags ~ hooray....plan to be done close to the first of June so we can concentrate on other fun things.  Jan will be there tomorrow and I see she's got a couple of things started.  Freight?  Well, the new Quiltmania magazines arrived and some wonderful kitty flannel in brights and a bolt of moustaches!  Hear the weather's going to change, sew we won't feel guilty being in our sewing rooms instead of pulling weeds ~ right?  Happy Monday night to you all!

Quilt Market Day 1......

This first picture is right before the doors were ready to open.  I wish there were some way to convey the vast scope of just how much wonderful, quilt-y, sew-y, creative *STUFF* is here.  The second picture is just a tiny portion of one of the 30+ rows of exhibitors.  I had a few appointments yesterday, but mostly spent time trying to get the lay of the land before I get serious about picking a few things we want to bring into the shop.  This is hard work, but fun at the same time.  Tracey rode down with the Tangled Threads girls and we've been comparing notes in our *divide and conquer* strategy.  Both of our eyes were a bit glazed over by the end of the day, I think!

Harriet, Jan, Diane and Linda have been at the shop to keep things running smoothly.  I guess the Di Ford book "Primarily Quilts" just came in....it's a fabulous book from Quiltmania.  The Quiltmania magazine was to arrive any day as well.  The Applique Society is meeting there this morning....always one of my favorite days 'cuz they have the most wonderful *show and tell* to ooooh and ahhhhh over!

Okay....I need to find a cup of coffee to start my day.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone.  Will share more pics when I get back.....putting lots of quick pics up on our Facebook page as I *travel* the rows.....link at the top of the page....*like* us to see them on your Facebook page.

To Market, to Market, to buy a.....

This is my destination today....the Oregon Convention Center in Portland where the Spring Quilt Market opens tomorrow!  Sew...it's to Market, to Market to buy a few bolts of fabric and see LOTS of STUFF!!  Thanks to Jan, Harriet, Linda and Diane, I get to have the next few days to work there!  Tracey is riding down with the Tangled Threads gals and we'll meet up there to see what sort of fun things we can find for your future sewing/quilting projects.  Okay, ready to take the next leg of the journey....coffee with my sister in Tacoma and then next stop Portland!  Watch our Facebook page for instant updates  =)

Bags, Pillows & Pincushions.....oh my.....

"Lions and tigers and bears ~ oh my!"  Nope, it's "Bags, Pillows & Pincushions ~ oh my!"  This is a great magazine we have in stock right now.  Jan was looking through it and decided that our quilted fabric would be just perfect for this bag.  Sew, she went home and made it!  Pretty darn cute, don't you think?  She says it's easy to do.  I think she added a couple of pockets to make it even more tailored to her personal needs.  Yes, we still have some of this fabric.  There are only two pre-quilted fabrics in the shop, but you could easily quilt something up for it.

Hope your Sunday was a lovely one.  Most of our kids and grandkids were here for a fun day.  Today?  Well, Diane and I will be tidying things up, since I got pretty busy at the end of the day Saturday and didn't get everything put away ~ sorry Diane.  But....drumroll please.....we have ALL of the fabric cut and the bags stamped for our 1800+ Shop Hop kits ~ woohoo!!  We have NEVER been this far ahead of schedule.  But...I still need to finish writing the directions for the block and then *stuff* the bags.

Okay....I am off to Fab-Etc for a fun filled fabric day!  Hope you have a super Monday, whatever you have planned!

Happy Mother's Day.....

Happy Mother's Day everyone!  Do you have plans today?  Most of our kids and all of our grandkids will be arriving at our house Sunday afternoon.  I am a fortunate Mom!  This is a picture of my Mom on her 90th birthday.  She loved to have pie for breakfast, so I took her out for breakfast and fed her pie on her 90th birthday.  She was diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer (rare and aggressive) almost exactly three years ago.  She passed away in August of 2010 just short of her 92nd birthday.  I miss her every day.  I don't mean for this to be a sad blog post, but a reminder to all of us to be sure and let those *special people* in our lives know how very much we love and appreciate them.  I am planning on loving my kiddos LOTS this Mother's Day.  Enjoy your Sunday everyone, no matter what you have planned.

Mangia, Mangia......

As far as I can tell, *Mangia* means *so eat!* in Italian.  Anyway, you get the idea, right?  These two projects are from the group Mangia, Mangia.  Both the apron and placemat are panels.  The placemat has three others in the group.  I'm just finishing another one, but didn't get it done last night.  They're pretty cute, don't you think?  I actually lined the apron with one of the coordinates and that made it go together in just an afternoon.  Quick and easy!  Maybe you know someone who might like this as a Mother's Day gift?  I just did a little quilting on the placemats and bound them with a red stripe coordinate cut on the bias for interest.

Well, with the beautiful weather around here, it's been a little quieter this week @ Fab-Etc.  But....that means we can work on cutting those 1800+ Shop Hop block kits.  I am happy to report that we are nearly done cutting ~ woohoo!!  Now, I need to write my directions and have those printed and then we can start *stuffing* bags!  Whew....always feels good when we get that little chore done.
Today?  Well, Jan and I will find something fun to play with, I am sure.  A few Fall/Autumn prints have arrived and Jan sewed a cute one onto the bottom of a towel yesterday after she helped a customer with her 60 degree tablerunner.  Okay....time is getting away from me.  Off to the shop for fabric fun!

May the fourth......

I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but today is *Star Wars Day* as in, May the fourth.....May the force be with you =)  That doesn't have anything at all to do with this picture or much of anything else in this post, but it was just a fun thing to say!  Although....the *force* of wanting to sew and create is a force we all want to be with us ~ right?

Well, then, how about this quick and easy project?  This is one of a pair of placemat panels we just got in.  I have the other almost done too....just need to finish sewing the binding on tonight.  The other one has a blue crab on it.  We have a few coordinates to these and they are fun as well.  Know someone that might like these for their summer table setting?

We had a super fun day today....busier than I thought it would be with the gorgeous summer-like weather we are experiencing.  Sharon taught another one of her Dotty Dresden classes today with lots of creating, laughs and fun going on in the class area!  Jan and I kept busy with customers and cutting more of the background pieces for our 1800+ Shop Hop block kits.  I brought home another placemat project that I may get to tomorrow in between enjoying the sunshine and laundry, etc.  Do you have anything fun planned for your Sunday?

Happy May Day.....

Happy May Day to everyone!  May 1st ~ it was a beautiful day in the Pacific Northwest.  And since it was the first Wednesday of the month, it was Tea Party day here @ Fab-Etc.  It was a bit of a smaller group today, but there were still lots of laughs and scones to go around. And, since it's the first of May, there's a new Nifty Notion to tell you about.  Lots of you have seen the wonderful handcrafted pin cushions that we have at the shop.  Sandy (Tracey's mom) makes these and we just love to have them on the counter to sell.  Sew....since Mother's Day happens this month, we thought it would be a super time to feature them as our Nifty Notion.  All month these darling pincushions will be 25% off!  (Regular price is $11-$14.)  I confess that I have three of them and love each one!

Well....tomorrow we may start cutting the fabric for our 1,800-2,000 Shop Hop kits!  At least, we'll get a plan going.  It will be here before we know it and we want to be done waaay ahead of time this year.  What else?  Well, we sold every single one of our Tumbler Flag kits today.  Sew, Harriet and I really should get some more ready.  And a cute apron panel came in with a group a week or so ago, and I may get that cut out and ready to go.  And our pillowcase kit selection is looking a bit sad too.  What about you?  Do you have outdoor plans for the next few days?  It's going to be sunny and warm around here!  Enjoy!
