My friend, Joanie, gave me an ornament like this last year ~ isn't it cute?  Well, since we have the Accuquilt die cut machine that cuts hexagons and fabric to match, I decided that I should try making one.  They are very fun to make!  Tomorrow at the Holiday Open House, we'll have the directions and the *stuff* for you to make them if you'd like.  We have a bunch of fabrics and templates cut and for just $1.49 you can get everything to make an ornament like this.  Of course, that's just one of the fun things we have set out for you.  Gosh....we were busy today getting things ready.  And I will be getting up extra early tomorrow to put the finishing touches on everything.  And I know some of you are super busy this weekend, so we'll be putting up more pictures of what we had on tap if you cannot make it in this weekend.  And we'll try to have lots of it still available next week.  Okay...more to prep for!  Night all.

Here kitty, kitty......

They're here!  The latest Laurel Burch cat group arrived this week.  It's gorgeous, as always.  We've got a great selection, plus, we have a few cosmetic bags in cat prints that are very fun.  Alicia happened to stop by when these arrived and couldn't wait to find a new home for them!  Oh, and today, we got the newest Quiltmania...haven't had a chance to really look at it, but there's a super red/white quilt on the cover!

How's your week been so far?  Been busy here at Fab-Etc.  We're gearing up for the Holiday Open House Friday and Saturday.  We're finishing projects and directions and new Dollar Menu ideas for you.  Thursday lots of the staff will be here to decorate and set up....should be a very fun day around here.  Sure hope you get a chance to pop in and say hello, munch on a cookie and take a look around.

I'm putting the finishing touches on an e-mail update that will hopefully go out tomorrow, so watch your Inbox for that.  Speaking of which, I better get back to that.....more fun pics later this week ~ okay?

What goes around.....

Late one Saturday afternoon a month or so ago, a very nice lady from California came in the shop.  She's the designer of these patterns.  Some of you will remember making folded star hotpads a few years back (well, quite a few).  She's *updated* the pattern and procedure and has these great patterns for sale.  Harriet, Alicia and I put our heads together and came up with this sample for you ~ thanks for the sewing, Harriet!  It comes with a  super template to build on and is easy as can be!  There's a round version and a square one and even a folded star pincushion.  There are also extra templates to purchase if you want to make more than one.  This is just one of the fun gift ideas we'll be featuring next Friday and Saturday at our Holiday Open House.

How was your Thanksgiving?  Eat too much?  We had a super time here at the Stewart household.  The grandkids were entertaining, as usual and the *togetherness* was extra special.

We've been busy at the shop with more ideas than time.  And Linda and I were hopping today with customers.  The To Do List didn't get a lot crossed off today....always Monday ~ right?  Well, I am going to go fiddle around with trying to finish an ornament tonight.  And tomorrow?  Well, turkey soup time, of course!  What about you?

Sew thankful.....

What are you thankful for on this Thanksgiving eve? (At least for those of us in the States.)
You know, I always close my newsletters with "And for that I am as always......sew thankful".  Today I am sew thankful for many things.  I am thankful for a family that will all be gathered here for at least part of the day tomorrow.  I am thankful for my sons Pete and Dave and the special women in their lives that bring out the very best in them.  I am thankful that we have another holiday to spend with our Lukas who bravely battles the cancer in his body every day.  He, his brother Benson and their Mom, our daughter Lydia, are my heroes.  And I am thankful for our other two grandchildren, Cody and Ellie, who are such delightful little people.  I am thankful for the retired guy who loves and supports me in so many ways.  I am thankful for the many years of being able to *play* with fabric and the enjoyment that brings.  I am and always will be thankful for a staff that makes me look good every day of the week.  They are by far the most special employees/friends any business owner could ever be blessed with.  And I am also sew very thankful for each and every one of you who have supported us in this journey since 1997.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be a small part of your creative endeavours.

And for that, I am as always.....sew thankful ~ Carol

Okay then.....

Sew....how's your Sunday been?  Good, I hope.  Me?  Well, that's my blog confession here to the right.  We have a very small house.  And when the whole family gets together for Thanksgiving dinner, there's not enough room in the dining area any more.  A couple of years ago, we came up with the solution of having dinner downstairs where I have my sewing stuff.  It works out great 'cuz I can set the table the night before and have everything ready ahead of time.  We just all grab a hot dish and head down there.  However, I don't know about you, but my sewing area is rarely a super tidy spot that I would want to *entertain* guests in  =)   Three guesses what I've been doing today?!?  Why oh why do I make such a mess down there and not clean it up?  Oh well, all's well that ends well ~ it's tidy enough for Thanksgiving!

It was a busy week last week.  And, oh my, we've been getting ideas for you for the Holiday Open House so fast we cannot possibly keep up with them.  But, we're going to try.  The latest is a 60 degree tree skirt that's coming out great!  I managed to get the binding on the Christmas runner that Tracey quilted for us.  Just need some buttons for holly berries.  We'll be updating the models behind the counter after Thanksgiving, so it needs to be ready!  Tomorrow, Alicia and I will be having lots of fun with fabric.  If you need anything, be sure to stop by!  Night all!

Okay....I've held off posting 'cuz I really wanted to share this with you.  Some of you have been in and seen this *in progress* but this afternoon and then tonight I finally got just enough time to finish the top.  Jan and I teamed up on the embroidery ~ she did all of the hard stuff and I just did a couple of them.  Then, I started stringing red/white 30's together and voila.  Isn't it just too cute for words!?!  The pattern is not done in redwork, but after stitching a couple of blocks and having a tough time with colors showing up, we decided to punt and do it all in red/white.  We are thrilled with it!  It's screaming to me to be hand quilted, but then it would never be done and up and selling patterns  =)   Sew, we'll see what we can come up with for quilting.  We have quite a few of these patterns....and we used the Sulky 12 wt. Christmas Red to stitch it.  Think it made a really nice clean line.  Oh, think the pattern's called "Betsy's Closet".

What a great week here @ Fab-Etc!  We've got ideas rolling around in our little heads for projects galore.  Tracey brought back the Enchanted Runner team Fab-Etc worked on.  Her quilting is superb!  I got the binding machine stitched on and tonight I'll start hand sewing it on.  Harriet is working on a folded star hotpad.  More on that later!  I traced another stitchery to start on and I have a few other ideas brewing for the Open House at the end of the month.  Oh....isn't there any way to make just a few more hours in the day?

Hope your week has been good so far.  We'll be ready, willing and able to help you this weekend if you need some project *stuff*!  Laundry's done.....got to run.

Fabric, fabric, fabric....

How did it get to be after 6:00 already?  Oh dear.....I still have lots on my *to do* list.  Anyway, here's a couple of pictures of two beautiful groups of fabric we got late last week.  The first one is from Clothworks and is called Photochrome Petals.  Isn't it fun!?!  And the next group is a popular green/gray combo called Simply Color.  They are both sitting at the counter just waiting for me to make a home for them.  Maybe tomorrow?

We had a wonderful week last week.  LOTS of customers!  And we had quite a few phone calls Saturday ~ yes, we are open our regular hours of 10-6 tomorrow (Veterans Day).  Alicia and I will be seeing what kind of mischief we can get into  =)

Saturday, Jan taught her Beginning Needleturn Applique class.  She has another one next Saturday afternoon (both filled up quickly!)  Emily worked with me Saturday and it was sew much fun to catch up on the latest with her.  She helped me get the kits together for that Tumbler Flag project I showed you a few posts ago.  They are all ready to go ~ yay....another thing crossed off the list!

Speaking of lists....I need to get back to mine.  If you are on the e-mail list, watch your Inbox in the next few days for our November Update.  Have a wonderful Sunday evening all!

Enchanting, but....

Okay....this is one of the projects we've been working on.  It's the "Enchanted Holiday Tablerunner" by Shabby Fabrics.  I couldn't wait to show you.  BUT....two disclaimers....#1 ~ Tracey is going to pick it up tomorrow and quilt it for us, sew it will look even better after that......and #2 ~ I have a dozen more patterns coming, but right now there are only a few left.  (Plus, there's also one with the same applique, but using 5" squares.)  Isn't it cool?  We have some plans to try it with another group of fabrics, so we'll let you know how that comes together.

Whew....been a really busy couple of days around here!  The monthly tea party yesterday was tons of fun with lots of party goers.  Then today we had lots of folks getting started on projects.  Harriet and I were hopping most of the day.  We got some great fabric too!  Photochrome Petals from Clothworks came and it is fun, fun, fun.  Tomorrow, we'll continue the fun.  Hoping to get the Tumbler Flag project kitted with some directions.....we'll see.  What does your Friday hold?

Little stockings.....

Here they are!  Aren't they cute?  Harriet made them look sew sweet hanging in our window.  When I went to format this picture, I wished I had taken a close up of one of them so you could see them better.  They're numbered from one to twenty-five.  They would look really great if you had a mantle to hang them on.  Or how about on the tree?  Tracey says they're just the right size for diamonds....don't you love how she thinks?!?

I'm writing this early today.  Going to run to the grocery store before I open this morning so we have everything we need for the Tea Party tomorrow.  Yesterday was a busy day @ Fab-Etc.  Lots of folks shopping for projects big and small!  And we've been making progress on the *finish* thing too.  Our runner with the holly applique is all ready to stitch down.  We're on the home stretch of our redwork stitchery ~ it is going to be darling!!  I've just got to put the final touches on the Tumbler Flag directions and then we'll finish the kits.  And...Nikki brought back the Falling Leaves quilt yesterday ~ it looks super.  She did a fantastic job on it.  I got the binding machine stitched yesterday afternoon in between customers and now the handstitiching begins tonight.  Jan and I will be working on tidying the place up today and doing some work on the runner.  How about you?

Hope your Tuesday is a good one.  Don't forget to vote today if you live in the States!  It's a precious privilege we have.

Tumbler flag.....

I know I promised pictures of the little stockings, but I forgot to get them down today and snap some pics ~ sorry.  Will try for tomorrow, okay?  In the meantime, this is a project we started a week ago today ~ thanks to a note I got from Sharon about this idea.  Tracey used the Accuquilt to die cut the tumblers with some red, white and blues she picked out.  She took it home that night and brought the top back the next day!  Sew....Saturday Jan layered it up (right sides together) flipped it out and made some tabs.  I picked it up then and quilted it and sewed the tabs on.  It's our reminder to all of you in the U.S. about Veterans' Day coming up soon, and also, to be sure to vote next week!  We are working on pre-cut tumbler kits....watch for those next week.  Isn't it cool?  And we FINISHED something!!

Today was fun!  Harriet and I played with another *work in progress* we've got going.  It's a scrappy runner with a holly applique at both ends.  I've just about got the middle done and now we've got the applique ready to put down.  Not sure if Alicia and I will get to that tomorrow.  The Just Takes 2 group will be there in the morning and that's always lots of fun.  Freight?  Well, new batiks galore, new cats, and some pizza and cupcakes (sounds like a tummy ache, doesn't it?)  Did I tell you the new Quilts and More magazine is here too?  It's always a good one for projects, and it doesn't disappoint this time either.

Hope your weekend is a good one.  Hey, we get an extra hour too ~ don't forget to *fall back* Sunday night.  I think I am going to use that extra hour to sew....how about you?
